Stanton, Daryll and Verna
Biography
Daryll and Verna Stanton are global missionaries with the Church of the Nazarene in Kenya.
The Stantons were appointed to Zambia in 1982. Their responsibilities included being director of, and teachers at, Nazarene Bible School in Lusaka, Zambia. They were transferred to what was then the Bophuthatswana North District. While there they planted the Pudimoe Church. Other responsibilities included assisting the district as a member of the District Advisory Board, constructing buildings, conducting revivals, and pastoral training. They moved to work in the Sekhukhune Land pioneer area of South Africa in 1987. Daryll was appointed as District Superintendent of this area when it became a district in February 1989.
From 1992-1996 the Stantons also pioneered the work of the Church of the Nazarene in Tanzania where it expanded into two districts. The Stantons continued working on the Africa East Field from Kenya. Daryll served as Kenya Mission Coordinator and Superintendent of the then pioneer Kenya Eastern District as well as a theology lecturer at Africa Nazarene University. Verna served as Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Coordinator for the field.
During their most recent term in Africa, the Stantons have served full time at Africa Nazarene University, residing on campus. Darryl has continued to teach theology, especially the practical classes, and serves on various committees while Verna has taught Health, given piano lessons and served on the university's HIV/AIDS committee. Both are committed to the university's motto: Holiness Education.
Daryll received the B.A. degree in religion and the M.A. degree in theology from Olivet Nazarene University. He also received the M.A. degree in missions at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City. He received the Doctor of Education degree from California Coast University in Santa Ana, California in 1997. Verna received the B.S. in nursing from Olivet Nazarene University in 1975.
Prior to their appointment as missionaries, the Stantons pastored on the Chicago Central District and served as associate pastor in Flint, Michigan. They ministered in the Children's Church and Cambodian outreach of Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene while Dr. Stanton attended seminary.
The Stantons have three children; Philip, Katrina, and Rachel.
