Reed, Rod and Sarah
Biography
Rod and Sarah Reed are global missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene in Kenya. They were appointed in August 2000.
Rod attended Olivet Nazarene University where he received a B.A. in Religion in 1984 and a M.A. in Religion in 1986. He then attended Nazarene Theological Seminary and graduated in 1988 with a M. Div. in Religion. Rod received a M. Phil. in Theological Ethics in 1991 and a Ph.D. in Theological Ethics in 1995, both from Drew University.
Prior to their appointment, the Reeds served as Ministers of Youth and Music at the Lakeland First Church of the Nazarene in Denville, New Jersey, from 1990-93. More recently they served as Pastors of the Arlington First Church of the Nazarene in Arlington, Virginia from 1995-2000. Sarah also graduated from Olivet with a B.A. in Music Education in 1984. She has served as Women's Ministries Director, Children's Ministry Coordinator, Church Musician, while teaching music in the public schools for twelve years.
Rod serves in the area of theological education. Since arriving in Kenya in January 2001, he has been teaching in the Department of Religion at Africa Nazarene University (ANU) in Nairobi, Kenya. Rod now serves as the Chair of the Post Graduate Studies in Religion, the main aspect of which is the oversight of the University's Master of Arts in Religion Program. Recently Rod has had a book published, which is entitled, “Holy With Integrity: The Unity of Social and Personal Ethics in the Holiness Tradition, 1880-1910.”
Sarah's main responsibility on the mission field is the care of their three children: Rebecca, Katie, and Hannah. However, her role as the Children's Ministries Coordinator for the Africa East Field (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania) has blossomed and is the focus of much of her attention. She also helps coordinate the Africa East Field Hostess Committee and assists in the Field Office.
Rod and Sarah share their call as follows, “We came to Africa believing that this was where God could use us most effectively in His kingdom and we have not been disappointed. Following God's will for our lives has been our greatest adventure. It has been the most rewarding ‘safari' we could ever have imagined. There is no better place than the center of God's will!”
