Biography

 

David and Sylvia Potter are pioneer missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene in the south Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.  They were first appointed as medical missionaries in the Nazarene College of Nursing at Kudjip, Papua New Guinea, in 1992 and served there until they accepted the call to begin the work of the Church of the Nazarene in Vanuatu in September 2003.

David received a B.S. in nursing from Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego, California, in 1979.  He worked in community health in San Diego and at a minor emergency care center in Olathe, Kansas.  He received an M.A. in missiology from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1990.  He was ordained as an elder by Dr. William Prince in 1997.  Prior to their departure for Vanuatu, David served as district superintendent for the Middle Ramu District in PNG.

Sylvia received a B.S. in nursing from Point Loma Nazarene College in 1980.  She worked as a R.N. in pediatrics in San Diego and as an office nurse for a Christian family practice physician in Olathe, Kansas. 

David and Sylvia are involved in church planting, pastoring, and training the people of Vanuatu to reach their nation for Christ. 

The Potters have three sons:  Joel, Jeffrey, and Wesley.
